Fire Risk Assessments

All non domestic premises with 5 or more employees and all shared or common parts of a property with more than one occupier are legally required to produce a written fire risk assessment. Completing a risk assessment is not only a legal requirement under the Fire Safety Order but it can also deliver realistic benefits to employers and their company. By carrying out a fire risk assessment and actioning the recommendations of this report make the likelihood of a fire and loss of life or injury greatly reduced.

By observing the recommendations of the fire risk assessment an employer can reduce the risk of fire breaking out which increases the stability of their business and the safety and wellbeing of their employees and premises.

70% of businesses close within 2 years of experiencing a fire, and 80% of businesses that suffer a moderate fire do not stay in business, lose their market share or lose their skilled staff to competitors.

TCS Fire Safety Consultancy has a panel of competent trained assessors who are able to carry out the fire risk assessment on your behalf.

The assessment consists not only of an organised physical check of all parts of the premises within scope but also a careful examination of maintenance and test regimes, fire evacuation procedures, fire training and the keeping of appropriate records.

There are five elements to a fire risk assessment.

  • Identify fire hazards
  • Identify people at risk
  • Evaluate, remove, reduce and protect from risk
  • Record, plan, inform, instruct and train
  • Keep the assessment under review and revise when required
The information gathered will be presented in a report, which will highlight any deficiencies captured as a series of prioritised action for remedial action and to focus attention on the critical areas.

Prioritised Action Codes:

Comments and recommendations listed within the report are coded with an action code number. The meanings of these code numbers are:

Code 1 Contravention of fire safety legislation or dangerous conditions identified requiring immediate remedial attention.
Code 2 Deficiencies identified in fire safety measures that require remedial action within 3 months.
Code 3 Recommendations to improve the fire safety provision to incorporate changes in standards and industry best practice
